Lesson 2: Guest Lecture
Our special guest lecturer Tony Santana shares his story about growing up in west Phoenix,
graduating from ASU, and becoming a vital engineer for Valley Metro Light Rail. Tony explains how STEM
set his career on a path to success.
Lesson 3: Balloon Car
Janet Yeow of AECOM provides a lesson in the importance of critical thinking for STEM. Plus,
she teaches our young engineers on how to use those skills to build a super-fast balloon car.
Lesson 4: Marshmallow Slingshot
Joseph Davis of Jacobs Engineering explains why effective communication is essential for
STEM careers. He also helps build a marshmallow slingshot to get those sweet treats flying.
Lesson 5: Fieldtrip
Who doesn’t love big trucks and heavy-duty construction equipment? Take a virtual tour of
the massive Valley Metro Operations and Maintenance Center Expansion Construction Project.
Lesson 6: Building Bridge Bonanza
Scott Tollefson of PGH Wong Engineering, Inc. teaches a lesson about workplace safety. He also helps our young engineers to build a very cool beam bridge and suspension bridge.
