Our Go-Getter Griffins Are Soaring!

South Pointe Junior High has become the most improved program in a very short span of time. Our groups have worked harder and harder and are transforming their thoughts into some very creative transit structures! Standout students Adrian Rizo and Kelize Harris have shown a genuine interest in engineering and construction, and have also developed into leaders of their groups. Youngsters J.D. Mendez and Maliyah Harris are some of the most active students of our groups and always want to find a way to get involved.

Panel Presentations begin the week of March 18, and we are eager to see how our 3-D transit models here at South Pointe look like. Adrian, Steve Caballero and Maliyah plan to speak on camera for our judges and are excited to see how far this project takes them. Go Griffs!

South Pointe Returns Stronger Than Ever

Our South Pointe Junior High Griffiths have returned from Winter break poised and ready to build their transit structure. Rob and Chris from Valley Metro assisted our future engineers in deciding how their base, roofing and shading will look like.

South Pointe’s Thursday group has a small but motivated group. Kelize, Miguel, Steve, Emmanuel, Jazz and Adrian spent our last block getting to know each other and are now teaming up and making great progress together! This week, they laid out their transit stop footprint and started brainstorming different types of pillars to hold their shading. Our clamps and clips were a great contribution this week!

Next Week, Rob and Chris return to join South Pointe to continue their transit structure construction. Our engineers are getting closer and closer to their goal. Stay tuned!

Griffins Ready to Build!

South Pointe Junior High- When I say these kids are excited, I mean they are excited! And ready to build! Students have been working diligently to get their projects going. Starting next, we will be building, constructing and their projects – TRANSIT Center.

Comarie, one of our star students, demonstrated his design skills to the rest of the group.

The students have been practicing their skills on designing according to scale. What does that even mean? Well our students can show you. It’s been great working with such active minds and creative personalities. This next week, our students will start the construction process, with safety first, our students will be working with tools, wood and even paint to design their structures!

So stay tuned… more design pictures coming your way. Encourage your future engineers to stay committed, we need all of their bright minds in the classroom. Showing off their skills for the South Phoenix Science and Engineering Fair (details coming soon).

Go Griffins!
