July Mini Camp – Truss Bridges
Who doesn’t like to do a little building, then a little demolition. Students continued to partner with Engineering Mentors to create Truss Bridges. I have to say, I was pretty impressed with students. The winning team’s truss bridge supported 52 pounds!! Just from Popsicle sticks and wood glue.
June Mini Camp – Introduction to Engineering
Students were introduced to engineering concepts through a robust STEM based hand-on curriculum. We built projects such as the marshmallow tower and balloon car. Students also participated in a college readiness course and were greeted by Engineers from Valley Metro, PGH Wong and students from ASU. We learned a lot, had some fun along the way and we even provided lunch! Could it get any more exciting?
Engineers of the Future Launches at Boys & Girls Club of Metro Phoenix
More than 75 students attended the June 21st launch for Engineers of the Future at the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Phoenix, Harry & Sandy Rosenzweig Branch. We had amazing guest speakers including, Councilwoman Betty Guardado, PGH Wong Executive Vice President Ron Wong, PGH Wong Engineer Chris Loveys, Boys & Girls Club Program Director Vanessa Moreno and Traffic Engineer Pablo Osuna. Children participated in a brain teaser, gift cards were raffled off and enjoyed treats. This is an exciting partnership for Valley Metro, our Engineer Mentors, the Boys & Girls Club, and the community.
